Go for the Assist, Donate to the Team

The Gettysburg Ice Hockey program has gone through a great transformation in the past few seasons with the help of generous donations from friends, family and alumni. We hope that you will continue to support our success by submitting a monetary donation to the Gettysburg Ice Hockey team as we try for another MDCHA championship.

It is the only hockey in the Gettysburg area and is quickly becoming one of the most popular sports on campus. The Gettysburg College Hockey team plays in the Mason Dixon Collegiate Hockey Association (MDCHA), in Division III club (non-varsity) hockey. We compete against rivals such as Johns Hopkins, Alvernia, Mount Saint Mary’s, Bucknell, Catholic, American, and Dickinson as well as against other major universities in the Mid Atlantic region. Gettysburg is also a member of the national American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), which is essentially the equivalent of the NCAA for club hockey. Since the Gettysburg area does not have their own ice facilities, home games for the Bullets are played at either the York Ice Arena or Twin Ponds arenas in Harrisburg.

As a non-varsity sport, the Bullet hockey team does not receive any funding from the Gettysburg College Athletic Department. We receive some funding from Campus Recreation as a recognized club, but these funds hardly cover our required ice time. The majority of the funding comes from player dues, any fundraising, and generous donations. As we look towards the future of this growing program we also welcome the idea of sponsorships for the Gettysburg College Ice Hockey team. As you well know, ice time is expensive and we try to keep the burden of dues for the players as low as possible, since they already carry the weight of paying for college tuition. The number of practices we have all depends on the funding we receive for the year, and unfortunately sometimes can be minimal resulting in very few practices. This season we are looking to make a run at the regional and national ACHA tournament since we have just missed it in previous seasons.

The benefits for you as an individual donating to the Gettysburg College Ice Hockey team are numerous.
