About Us
The Gettysburg Women's Rugby Club was formed by co-founders, Ashley Binter and Debora Pfaff in 1996. During that year the team practiced unofficially with the men's team under the guidance of their coach, holding in-house competitions. In 1997, the team received recognition from the college Student Senate as a college-sponsored club sport which allowed a probationary membership status from the EPRU allowing the team to compete competitively. While no games were won that season; the team gained valuable experience playing many well-established teams in the EPRU. The 1998 season proved to be more successful, with the team winning their first game against Muhlenberg. The team went through various coaches and levels of success during the following years. In 2000 Level 1 rugby coach, Jerry Godfrey, was hired. Godfrey helped the team gain knowledge about the game and led the team to the EPRU playoffs in the Spring of 2005, Fall of 2006 and the Fall of 2007. The Fall 2007 team earned the title of EPRU Blue Division Champions after defeating both Lehigh and Muhlenberg. The team traveled to Stonehill College in Massachusetts where they played for the Division IV National Championship. After a strong performance the team claimed the title of national runner-up. The success of the past three years has brought the team record high participation and potential for the coming years.
