Men's Soccer Blanks Waynesburg, 4-0, in Season Opener

FROSTBURG, Md. - Jesse Gemberling-Johnson (Wyndmoor, Pa./Christopher Dock) led Gettysburg with two goals as the Bullets opened up their season with a 4-0 win over Waynesburg at the Frostburg State Tourmament on Friday.

Gemberling-Johnson opened up the Gettysburg scoring with just 29 seconds elapsed in the contest. He buried the rebound of a Geoff Menge (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) shot to the lower right side of the cage. Menge was credited with an assist on the play for the first point of his collegiate career in his first contest.

The Yellow Jackets kept the Bullets off the board for the majority of the second half, but Gettysburg mounted two quick strikes just before the intermission.

Ryan Peiffer (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) finished off a corner kick from Chris Bayon (Langhorne, Pa/Lawrenceville School [N.J.]) with five minutes and 51 ticks left in the first half. With the tally, Pfeiffer, a freshman, picked up his first goal in his collegiate debut.

Gemberling-Johnson scored has second goal of the game just 94 seconds after Peiffer's, reuniting with Menge to close out the first half scoring. Menge finished the game with two assists.

Waynesburg limited the Gettysburg attack to one goal in the second stanza. Bayon found the back of the net in the 64th minute, burying a feed from senior captain Garrett Bruno (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.).

In the cage for the Yellow Jackets, Brad Davis collected nine saves in the contest.

For the Bullets, Adam Finkel (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) made two saves to help the Gettysburg defensive unit claim a shutout in its season opener.

Gettysburg outshot Waynesburg 23-2 in the contest and earned 19 corner kicks to the Yellow Jackets' one.

The Bullets return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they face Frostburg State in the championship game of the Frostburg State Tournament.
