As part of Immersion Projects during winter and spring break, Gettysburg students travel to sites in the United States and abroad to serve host communities in ways that promote social justice and community development. Whether working for civil rights in Alabama; providing support for those affected by HIV/AIDS in New York City; rebuilding Gulf Coast communities; serving the homeless in Washington, DC; Joining the people of Gettysburg’s sister city, Leon, Nicaragua, on community development projects; or examining social injustice in the Dominican Republic, students learn about complex issues as they contribute to real improvement.
