Pennsylvania College Guard

We are a group of living historians based on the Gettysburg College
Campus.  The Pennsylvania College Guard represents many different units
of both the Union and the Confederacy, including The 26th Pennsylvania
Emergency Militia Regiment, which was formed at Pennsylvania College
in 1863. Our clothing and impressions represent soldiers and civilians
of the Civil War Era.

 About Us

"Gettysburg College's Civil War history is rich in that during the
Civil War some students from the college actually formed a group called
the College Guards. When Pennsylvanian Governor Andrew Curtin called
fo remergency troops during the Gettysburg Campaign, these students
formed a large majority of Company A in the 26th Pennsylvania
Emergency Militia Regiment. We also are fortunate because the
very Civil War was fought on our college campus. Our very owm
boys fought just a short distance away during a skirmish on
June 26, 1863.

We, at the college, feel that we have a rewarding opportunity to
portray these men, but we also get to portray a numerous amount
of other impressions such as Federal and Confederate units
along with a civilian side. For the PCG, we try to attend many
differenttypes of eventsfocusing on both educating ourselves,
other living historians, and the public. Some of our previous
events have been camps of instruction,
living histories, balls, and larger spectator events.

As for our focus, we have a campaigner mindset.

It is our ultimate goal to educate.
It is our vision to accurately portray both the military and
civilian side of the Civil War in our clothing and most importantly our
mindset. In order to achieve this, we endeavor to conduct research on
clothing, material culture, and period ideologies. Along with
research for ourselves, we also want to share our knowledge
with others too."
