CWI Scholarships
Civil War Institute Scholarships Available
For High School Juniors (Rising Seniors)
and
High School History Teachers
Scholarships to attend the annual Civil War Institute are available for high school juniors and high school history teachers.
A full scholarship covers a shared air conditioned dorm room, board and tuition. Transportation costs are NOT covered by scholarship funds. Only first-time attendees are eligible for scholarships.
Students who have at least completed their Junior year of High School, one year of U.S. history and have a genuine interest in the Civil War may apply for a scholarship by including the following with their application.
_____ Your academic transcript;
_____ Two letters of recommendation (including one from your history teacher);
_____ A letter describing your interest in the Civil War and why you feel that the CWI would benefit you.
_____ An original work (essay or research paper) from your history class.
Teachers who wish to apply for a scholarship much teach full-time with at least two years experience, and have Civil War Studies as part of their teaching. PA ACT 48 & CEUs should be in place and available for teachers in 2008. They should be prepared to share ideas/lessons associated with teaching Civil War studies and should submit the following with their application:
_____ One letter of recommendation from a teaching colleague, department chair, or principal;
_____ A second letter of recommendation from a recent student of that applicant;
_____ A letter describing what you hope to learn from, as well as contribute to, the CWI.
The deadline for application is March 31st. Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail as soon as a decision has been made (shortly before June 1st).
