Funding Guidelines
For Gettysburg College departments, programs, and individuals seeking funding for Sesquicentennial-related events or projects, please review the following guidelines for submitting funding proposals to the Gettysburg College Sesquicentennial Planning Committee. Funding is limited, and proposals will be accepted on a first-come, first-served, basis.

Guidelines for Submitting Funding Proposals to the Sesquicentennial Planning Committee
When submitting a proposal for funding to the Sesquicentennial Planning Committee, please provide the following:
- An overview or brief description of the program or event seeking support, and the entity making the request
- The expected outcomes or benefits of the program or event
- A detailed overall budget for the program or event
- Details regarding other expected sources of support, either already secured or in the works, and some sense of how the Committee’s dollars will fit in with the other sources (i.e. what percentage are the Committee is expected to bear)
- A description of how the success of the program or event will be evaluated, during or after the fact (e.g. number of attendees at an event, permanent “product” such as a book, article, recording, physical artifact or scholarly piece)
- A description of how the proposed event addresses and furthers the goals of the Committee and in doing so, how it benefits Gettysburg College. Please see below, the President’s charge to the committee and the committee’s objectives (see below)
President’s charge to the committee:
To plan, oversee, and coordinate a series of programs and events during the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the American Civil War that showcase the exceptional educational experience offered by Gettysburg College and enhance the College’s reputation for academic excellence. To reinforce the College’s reputation as a center of Civil War studies. To concurrently explore the potential for new revenue streams related to these programs.
Strategic goals:
Implement events and program that will elevate the College’s visibility and reputation
- Reorient the tourist gaze of the Gettysburg battlefield visitor toward the College through interpretive experiences that will continue beyond the 150th Commemoration
- Create programs and events that cast the national spotlight on Gettysburg College
- Design interdisciplinary programming that raises the visibility of the College’s distinctive programs, such as, CWI, EI, CWES, GLC, the Conservatory, and the Majestic Theater
Develop programming that reinforces and advances Gettysburg College’s prominence as a center for Civil War studies
- Implement programs that highlight the College’s special place in history and how the lessons learned are applicable today
- Create student-centered programs and educational immersion experiences that will extend beyond the Civil War 150th
- Identify key audiences and seek programming in cooperation with development and admissions to enhance recruitment and alumni relations
Explore the potential for new revenue streams for the College
- Seek support for academic programs in collaboration with development
- Find opportunities to develop new revenue streams for the College
