Gettysburg College is a community dedicated to the education of undergraduate students. The College is deliberately constructed, with activities intentionally developed to produce a particular and unique outcome. These include the curricular program and a broad spectrum of co-curricular programs.

Academic program


Average class size

Gettysburg has an average class size of 18. Close to 20% of class sections have fewer than 10 students enrolled.

Computing facilities (public computer labs)

The College provides cutting-edge technology to support students' academic success. For example, there are close to 20 public computer labs in various academic buildings, with close to 300 computers for academic study and research.

Degrees granted by department

In 2008-2009, a total of 700 degrees were awarded to 607 students (92 of whom had double majors).

Internships by academic department

During 2008-09, 214 students completed internships in business, non-profit, or government settings, which helped students clarify career interests and gain valuable work experience. The number of students completing internships has been steadily increasing.

Special programs

To support students' academic success and maximize student learning, the College sponsors 33 Affiliated Programs (28 for study abroad and 5 for domestic off-campus studies). It also offers dual-degree programs and other special academic programs.

Student-faculty ratio

Over the past 5 years 13 faculty have been added to maintain a student-faculty ratio at 10.7 to 1. The goal is to further reduce this ratio over the next two years.
