About the Donor

Francis L. Arensberg created the fund in 1949 as a memorial to his father, Conrad Christian Arensberg (1840-1924), steel executive and veteran of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Conrad Arensberg served in Company F of the Pennsylvania Independent Artillery. It’s said that Arensberg didn’t return to Gettysburg until 50 years after the battle—at which point, he became devoted to both the site and Pennsylvania (later Gettysburg) College.
