Special Collections and Archives

Goal:  To become familiar with the organization and operations of a Special Collections Department and Archives of an academic library.

Supervisor:  Karen Drickamer , Director of Special Collections and College Archivist

Location: Special Collections Department, fourth floor, Musselman Library

Dates available: Summer Break or Fall Semester

Internship activities:

The Intern will learn archival theory and practice, and become familiar with rare books, manuscripts, photograph and memorabilia collections.  In addition the intern will become familiar basic preservation of rare materials.

The intern will assist in the arrangement and description of archival and personal papers collections and the creation of finding aids.

The intern will assist with researching and mounting exhibits.

The intern will staff the reading room desk and assist students and other researchers in using the collections.

The intern may assist with digital projects or initiatives related to the history of Gettysburg College in preparation for the upcoming 175th anniversary of the College.
