  • *POSITION FILLED* Administrative Offices Student Assistant: Student will assist with all areas of Administrative Office work, duties will include: Maintaining spreadsheets, processing outgoing library mailings, filing, organizing, data entry, sorting incoming mail. Duties may extend to designing and distributing event fliers, and book or product research. Also participates in other projects and duties as assigned. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.

  • *POSITION FILLED* Cataloging Intern: Copy catalogs approval books, firm orders, and gifts. Assists in enhancing cataloging on older materials. Position starts at $8 per hour. 6-10 hours per week.
    Essential Skills and Aptitudes: Prompt, reliable, responsible. Attention to detail a must. Familiarity with OCLC Client, WorldCat, MARC Records, and Muscat a must.
  • *POSITION FILLED* Cataloging Student Assistant: Physical processing of books, DVDs, and other materials (covers, stamps, etc.). Produces item labels, conducts quality control of items to check that they are processed correctly. Changes the status of items in MUSCAT before sending to the stacks. Other duties as assigned. Work hours available are 8:00AM - 12:00PM, 1:00PM - 4:00PM; Monday - Friday. (No evenings or weekends) Must be able to work a minimum of four hours per week. Additional requirements: organized, methodical work habits. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.

Circulates library materials, and helps customers locate materials. Assists in troubleshooting printers, copiers and microfilm readers. Other tasks as assigned. Responsible for packing, shipping, and distribution of items being removed from the collection, as well as shelving.   • *POSITION FILLED* Graphic Design Student Assistant: Do you have an interest in design or art? Do you like designing for the web? Are you looking for on the job experience? Musselman Library has a great opportunity for a student interested in art and graphic design. Responsibilities for this position include the following tasks: Working with library staff to create design ideas that fit the needs for both print and online library marketing initiatives; Brainstorming, mocking up, and modifying design ideas; Using computer software to execute designs. Position starts at $8.00 per hour, average 6-10 hours per week.

  • *POSITION FILLED* Interlibrary Loan Student: Assists with processing requests from other institutions, and preparing materials to lend other libraries. Processes incoming loans and returning books. Helps to research and verify citations, scan requested material. and send scan via several on-line formats. Decisions for appropriate packaging, and shipping requested materials out. Additional qualifications: an aptitude for research and willingness to learn library "detective"" skills to locate the "hard to find" item. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.

  • *POSITION FILLED* Media Services Student Assistant:  Helps with all aspects of media such as film previewing and digitizing films for streaming purposes. Also helps with putting films on reserve and assisting patrons with microfilm/microfiche readers. Additional qualifications: occasional lifting required. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.

Other duties as assigned. Work hours available are 9:00AM-12:00PM, 1:00PM - 5:00PM; Monday - Friday. (No evenings or weekends) Must be able to work a minimum of four hours per week. Preference will be given to work study students for positions during the academic year. Additional requirements: organized, methodical work habits. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.

  • *POSITION FILLED* Reference & Instruction Student Specialist: Are you creative and unafraid of computers? If so, the lively Reference and Instruction department at the Library wants YOU as a team member. As our Reference & Instruction Student Specialist, you will help with all aspects of the daily operations of our department. In addition, duties will include managing spreadsheets assisting in the design of instructional and promotional materials (print and electronic) for departmental use, helping to process the selection of new reference titles, and assisting with classroom instructional needs. Other duties will be assigned as they develop and you develop. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.
    Essential Skills and Demonstrated Abilities Desired:
    Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Keyboarding skills required and an eye for good design is a plus. It's helpful for you to have an interest in education, working with the public, and working with computers software applications. Attention to detail (and a willingness to photocopy!) is essential. We want to work with a prompt, reliable, responsible person who is comfortable with information technologies. Individuals who have worked with web page development and design, yearbook staffs, word processing and web design software applications, customer service, instructional assistance, as well as prior library experience could be well-suited to this position because of prior experience and knowledge, skills and demonstrated abilities.   • *POSITION FILLED* Scholarly Communication Assistant: Assist librarians in soliciting and uploading content into Gettysburg College’s institutional repository (The Cupola: Scholarship at Gettysburg College). Learn how to identify publications that can be included in The Cupola. Investigate publisher policies regarding copyright and self-archiving. Assist in communicating with faculty authors and publishers as necessary (typically via email).   • *POSITION FILLED* Serials Assistant: Sorts daily mail including journals, newspapers and microfilm; checks in, labels, and processes all serials; keeps journal and newspaper stacks in order; processes and shelves returning bindery shipments; sorts and distributes approval slips and review cards; may process book shipments; may assist with weeding/shifting projects. Ability to read call numbers, facilitate necessary call number corrections, and identify serial titles and shelving locations. Maintenance of orderly stacks and surrounding area. Other duties as assigned. Additional requirements: Understanding of Library of Congress call numbers or willingness to learn.   • *POSITION FILLED* Special Collections Student Assistant: Shelves books and files photographs in Special Collections; creates and types container lists; creates indices; inputs data; photocopies delicate materials; monitors reading room; assists with exhibits; processes publications for binding; performs other related duties as assigned. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.
    Essential Skills and Aptitudes: Must be dependable, self-motivated, a quick learner, independent, an accurate typist and have knowledge of Microsoft Word. Previous library experience preferred, but not required. History major preferred, but must at least have an interest in working with documents, manuscripts, rare books, rare maps, and artifacts. Must be able to lift cartons weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • *POSITION FILLED* Special Collections Student Assistant 2: Student will be responsible for the filing and organization in Special Collections of artifacts, vertical file items, audio cassettes, films and CDs as needed. In addition, student will meticulously update all appropriate finding aids. This student will also assist in organizing the microfilm collection. General duties will include photocopying of delicate and / or acidic materials, removal of all metals (ie. staples) from materials if necessary and shelving when needed. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.
    Essential Skills and Aptitudes: Must be dependable, a quick learner, organized, extremely detail-oriented and self-motivated. Must have a good working knowledge of general computer applications such as Word, Excel, etc. and be an accurate typist.
  • *POSITION FILLED* Special Collections Student Digital Projects Assistant: Student will be responsible for the photography and scanning of materials by following digital preservation and imaging standards created by Special Collections, and for producing both archival Tiffs and JPEG derivatives. Individual must also maintain the organization of digital files so as to facilitate retrieval by the Special Collections staff.  Duties may also include analog to digital conversion of audio cassette tapes.  Student will come into contact with a wide variety of materials such as photographs, slides, negatives, pamphlets, rare books, letters, and broadsides; appreciation for these rare materials through demonstrated care when digitizing is essential.    Position starts at $7.25 per hour.
    Essential Skills and Aptitudes: Must be dependable and a quick learner.  Will have extensive experience with digital cameras, Adobe Design Suite, Excel, Word.  Must also comfortable with new technology.  The ideal candidate will be capable of offering solutions to some of the digitizing challenges that arise in Special Collections.
  • *POSITION FILLED* Special Collections Student Assistant 3: Student will be responsible for the general organization of the photograph collection. Duties will include identification of the images, maintenance of the collection's finding aid, label printing and accurate filing of photos. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.
    Essential Skills and Aptitudes: Must be dependable, a quick learner, organized, extremely detail-oriented and self-motivated. Must have a good working knowledge of general computer applications such as Word (label-making), Excel, etc. and be an accurate typist.
  • *POSITION FILLED* Web Student Assistant: Helps support the ongoing maintenance and development of the library web site. Edits and updates existing web pages, creates new ones as needed, learns and works within the confines of the existing web site architecture. Takes digital photos, edits them as needed, and stores them properly. Experience with graphic design or layout a plus. Need someone with strong computer skills as well as an eye for good user design and appealing visuals. Position starts at $7.25 per hour.
