Notes at Noon, Svitanya
Monday, March 29, 2010
Musselman Library's Notes at Noon concert series returns on March 29th with a performance by Svitanya, a women's vocal ensemble specializing in Eastern European folk music. Based in the Philadelphia area, the group performs traditional and modern arrangements of folk songs drawn from across Eastern Europe, including Ukraine, Bulgaria, Russia, Georgia, Lithuania, and Macedonia. Svitanya - which means "the light at sunrise" in Ukrainian and Croatian - also performs original music composed in the folk tradition, and accompanies many of the songs with guitar, tambourin, doumbek, and gaida, a Macedonian bagpipe. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of Musselman Library and the Adams County Arts Council, and is free and open to the public. Please join us in the apse and feel free to bring your lunch!
