Theology and Beyond

Hillel and the Gettysburg College Global Studies program
invite you to attend a lecture by Marc Ellis, Jewish liberation
theologian and Professor of American and Jewish Studies at Baylor
University. Ellis is Director of the Center for American and Jewish
Studies. Professor Ellis has authored fifteen books and edited five
others, among them: Toward a Jewish Theology of Liberation;
Unholy Alliance: Religion and Atrocity in Our Time; O
Jerusalem: The Contested Future of the Jewish Covenant, and
Practicing Exile: The Religious Odyssey of an American Jew.
His latest book, Israel and Palestine: Out of the Ashes: The
Search for Jewish Identity in the Twenty-First Century has recently
been published in the United Kingdom and America by Pluto Press.

Egan will share her insight into how Trudi Montag is portrayed
in Stones from the River. Cara will also discuss the medical
and social aspects of achondroplasia (the most common form of

Bonhoeffer and Nazi Resistance

Crowner, Professor Emeritus of German at Gettysburg College, will
give a presentation about Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Bonhoeffer (1906-1945)
was a German Lutheran theologian who was one of the most famous
resisters of Nazism. He was executed for his involvement in a plot
to assassinate Hitler. Ever wonder why more members of the religious
community didn't dare to resist the Nazi regime? This is the talk
