The Sergeant, 1904
A departure from the action-packed compositions of most of Remington's bronzes, The Sergeant was described by the artist as "bust of Rough Rider Sergeant." Four years later Remington created another bust, this time an Indian portrait that he titled Savage. The sympathetic depiction of The Sergeant is in contrast to the latter figure, which is more sternly interpreted.
