Generally the Internet is used to refer to the World Wide Web, although the Web is really just a part of the Internet as a whole.
Strengths
The Web can be updated instantly and can be a powerful tool for moment-to-moment current event awareness
It is a cost effective mode of publishing information and is heavily used by governments and non-profits to provide access to reports and statistics
The cost efficiency allows for the publication of materials on topics that are too specific to be able to be published in a more expensive format
Web sites can provide multimedia sources
The Web provides forums for people to exchange information, such as bulletin boards etc.
People who would not have access to traditional publication methods can publish their thoughts (not only individuals, but also groups who are not usually represented by the publishing industry)
Weaknesses
Web content can be unstable, disappearing or being altered irregularly and without warning
Because anyone can publish on the Web, there is no quality control
Often, the party responsible for the content of the site is not identified
The user has to determine the quality of the site for him/herself
Poor design can make information hard to find on a site
