Aluka

Aluka is a not-for-profit international collaboration of educational and cultural institutions focused on building a high-quality scholarly resource of materials from and about Africa. It provides collections comprising the African Plants content area that are already available and materials in the African Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscapes content area. This content area contains multiple collections of visual, spatial, and historical material about key cultural and historical sites and landscapes in Africa, a number of which have been designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites, including:

  • Kilwa Kisiwani-a medieval city on an off-shore island in Tanzania
  • Lalibela, Ethiopia-capital of the Zagwe Dynasty and famous for its rock-hewn churches
  • Asante Temples located at Besease and Patakro, Ghana
  • Djenné and Timbuktu, Mali - celebrated for their mosques in Sudanic style
  • A preliminary collection of digitized photographs of African Rock Art

American Civil War Research Database

 
Provides an online resource for researching the individuals, regiments, and battles of the American Civil War. Originally created by Historical Data Systems, Inc., the database contains indexed, searchable information on over 4 million soldiers and thousands of battles, together with 15,000 photographs. With thousands of regimental rosters and officer profiles, the database will continue to grow as new information is loaded semiannually.


Cambridge Collections Online

 
Cambridge Collections Online offers subject or theme based collections of content within a richly functional, fully cross-searchable online environment. The Complete Cambridge Companions is available as a complete collection and as two sub-collections comprising the Cambridge Companions in Literature and Classics and the Cambridge Companions in Philosophy, Religion and Culture. Each collection is updated with new Companions on publication. Also available through Cambridge Collections Online, Shakespeare Survey Online makes the distinguished 50 year history of the print series available online for the first time and exclusively.

Hispanic American Newspapers


Provides a compilation of Spanish-language newspapers printed in the U.S. during the 19th and 20th centuries. The distinctive collection features hundreds of titles, including many published bilingually in Spanish and English.

Illustrated Civil War Newspapers and Magazines

 
Provides historical documents and allows you to browse and search HarpWeek's collection of 19th century journals. The collection includes 23 Union titles, 11 Confederate titles, 15 campaign newpapers and 600 letters and diaries.

Proquest Civil War Era

Provides a unique combination of newspapers and pamphlets covering the American Civil War period allowing researchers access to primary resources that highlight the causes of the war and the conflict itself. Coverage from 1840 - 1865.
