About SciFinder Scholar: SciFinder Scholar is the online version of Chemical Abstracts, CAS Registry and CASREACT. It also includes MEDLINE. The database covers the full spectrum of chemical and biomedical subjects, including biochemisty, organic/inorganic chemistry, and applied chemistry, as well as environmental science, food science and toxicology. More than 16 million citations to the chemistry literature can be searched by topic, author, molecular formula, company name, CAS Registry Number, patent number, and CAS abstract number. The CAS Registry file contains the structure and dictionary information for over 25 million substances. A browse feature provides easy access to the tables of contents for recent journal issues.

Online Access: World Wide Web, but special client software is required. To access SciFinder Scholar in a computer lab, go to "start,""programs," and choose SciFinder Scholar.

To install SciFinder on your own computers: You need a user id and password to download the client software. You also need to save the site.prf file into the SciFinder Scholar folder named SFSCHLR that is created when you install SciFinder Scholar. This download also requires a password. Contact Janelle Wertzberger at jwertzbe@gettysburg.edu or 337-7010 to get the user id and password for the download and the password to the page with the site.prf file.

Once you have your user id and passwords, you can access directions for downloading the software and the site.prf file here.

Number of Simultaneous Users Allowed: 2 users among 3 schools

Access Restrictions: Gettysburg College faculty and students should contact a reference librarian or call the Reference Desk at x6600 for instructions and passwords for downloading the client in offices or residence halls.

Please Note: There is a maximum of two simultaneous users for SciFinder Scholar. Please log off as soon as you are finished. SciFinder Scholar is not available to the general public or walk-in library users: the license restricts access to Gettysburg College students, faculty and staff.
