GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Gettysburg College's Eisenhower Institute and Center for Public Service will sponsor an immigration forum March 26 and 27. The two-day discussion will promote civic discourse concerning immigration - a subject that strongly affects the mid-Atlantic region's future.

The forum will begin March 26 at 7 p.m. with a public screening of the documentary "American Harvest" at the Majestic Theater, Cinema 1, located at 25 Carlisle Street in Gettysburg. Winner of an honorable mention at the 2007 Buffalo Niagara Film Festival, the film depicts the plight of migrant workers and the symbiotic relationship that has developed between them and the American farming community. Filmmaker Angelo Mancuso will answer questions from the audience after the film.

A panel discussion, "Migrant Labor: National Questions, Local Impact," will take place March 27 at 7 p.m. in the Eisenhower Room of the Gettysburg Hotel located at on the square. Panelists will include "American Harvest" filmmaker Angelo Mancuso; Gary Swan, director of governmental affairs and communications for the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau; John Peters of Peters Orchards; Keith Eckel, president of Eckel Farms, Inc.; and Margaret Barajas, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Association of Latino Organizations.

"The combination of the film and panel of multiple perspectives on immigration policy offers the opportunity for our campus and community to critically reflect on national questions which have direct impact in our county," said Gretchen Natter, director of the Center for Public Service. "The Forum offers students, faculty and community agencies the opportunity to think about their every day actions in the community in a larger context."

More information is available by contacting Rick Farwell, Eisenhower Institute, at 202-628-4444 or Natter at 717-337-6490.

Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with approximately 2,600 students. It is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. The college was founded in 1832.
