NY Times columnist to discuss financial crisis, economy Oct. 8
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - New York Times Financial Correspondent Floyd Norris will talk about the financial crisis and whether or not it is over Oct. 8 at Gettysburg College.
The 7 p.m. lecture, "Can the Economy Muddle Through with a Broken Financial System?," will take place in Breidenbaugh Hall's Joseph Theater, Room 201. Despite the fact that the housing market is firming up and job losses are declining, Norris will explain why the economy is not yet in full recovery and how many of the problems remain unfixed. This free, public event is sponsored by the college's Department of Economics and the Markell Charitable Trust.
In addition to the New York Times, Norris is also the chief financial correspondent for the International Herald Tribune. His column appears in both papers on Fridays, and a weekly analysis of financial data, "Off the Charts," appears in the New York Times on Saturdays. His blog, "Floyd Norris, Notions on High and Low Finance," also appears on the New York Times website. Prior to 1988, Norris worked for Barron's National Business and Financial Weekly, where he wrote "The Trader'' column on the stock market.
Founded in 1832, Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences. With a student body of approximately 2,600, it is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
