GETTYSBURG, PA. - More than 75 Gettysburg College students cut their hair this semester in support of an initiative to provide free wigs for cancer patients.

To participate, students had to have eight inches of dry, washed, healthy hair to donate. Hair donations were made into free, real-hair wigs and distributed to cancer patients through the American Cancer Society's network of nationwide wig banks. Local hair stylists volunteered to cut the hair and the event was sponsored by the Women's Center, Gamma Phi Beta and Panhellenic. In conjunction with Pantene's Beautiful Lengths campaign, Gettysburg College was one of the first college or university to work with the organization. Actress Hillary Swank also joined the campaign and cut her hair on "The Oprah Show" in early November.

"I would definitely donate my hair again," said Caroline Kocher '08, co-director of the Women's Center. "It was for a fantastic cause and I'm really enjoying the short hair."
