Two books will share 2012's $50,000 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize, awarded by Gettysburg College and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. They are Lincoln and the Border States: Preserving the Union (Kansas) by North Carolina State University history Prof. Emeritus William C. Harris and Lincoln’s Forgotten Ally: Judge Advocate General Joseph Holt of Kentucky (UNC Press) by Elizabeth D. Leonard, the John J. and Cornelia V. Gibson Professor of History at Colby College.
