Six Gettysburg College students traveled to the The Hague in the Netherlands to take part in this year's Model United Nations conference.

During the March 20 to 27 trip, the students will take part in a simulation of the practices, actions and debates of the real United Nations. Delegates are assigned countries and positions that they represent through a series of sessions in an effort to negotiate a solution.

The Gettysburg students, members of the campus International Affairs Association, will post their thoughts on a blog throughout the event.

Gettysburg has sent delegations to previous Model UN sessions, in sites such as Beijing, China and Geneva, Switzerland. Gettysburg's Model United Nations team won "best delegation" honors at a major conference in Cairo, Egypt in 2006.

More than 2,000 delegates from some 200 universities are expected at this year's event.

Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences. With a student body of approximately 2,500, it is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. The college was founded in 1832.
