Recent Work:

Are sociable, friendly people also more attractive?

Meier is interested in several areas of affect and social-cognition, focusing on embodiment and metaphor. Metaphors describe emotions in terms that borrow from basic sensations and perceptions (e.g., "I'm feeling up"). His research reveals that metaphors are more than simple communication devices, but indicative of a deeply perceptual mode of thought. His research shows that people's emotional concepts have a metaphorical structure.
