Gettysburg College's Office of Communications & Public Relations won five awards for design, editorial content, and online videos from its professional organization CUPRAP, which is composed of more than 400 communication professionals from colleges, universities, and independent schools in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. More than 300 entries were received. Judging was based on creativity, marketing execution, and impact of message.

Gettysburg College took home silver awards for its special event celebration of The College at 175 and a four-color brochure produced for the 2007 Senior Art Exhibition, and bronze awards for its online video series Podium, alumni magazine article The Homeless is Where the Heart is (Winter 2007), and a print poster for the 2007 Senior Art Exhibition.

Admissions completes successful fall recruitment

  science
Each year brings new challenges and opportunities for the enrollment team. We have had several very successful years with increased applications, improved selectivity and enhanced diversity. Clearly, the challenge we have faced this year is sustaining these successes in a very competitive market. While the national prospective student population has grown, so have the challenges of competition for top students, improving diversity and the issues surrounding college affordability. We are especially cognizant of several external market conditions this year that may impact enrollment and these have guided our enrollment management discussions. They include an unstable economy, the Ivy League "no loan" policy announcements, and the sub-prime mortgage crisis.

There are currently 759 deposits for the entering class and we are monitoring summer attrition daily. If the attrition rate is the same as previous years, we will enroll approximately 710 students this fall.

As the Class of 2012 begins to take shape, quality and selectivity continue to be strong and we are very excited about the diverse backgrounds that the students come from:

  • Applications totaled 5800, down 5 % from last year and 10% ahead of the year before.
  • We admitted approximately 38% of the applicant pool.
  • Students' academic quality mirrors the strength of last year's entering class.
  • Details about the class will be available in September, but preliminary highlights include 129 presidential scholars, 23 international students and 82 domestic students of color who will compose about 12% of the incoming class.

Janczyk wins 300th game

  Janczyk
Gettysburg's Hank Janczyk became just the third men's lacrosse coach in NCAA history to reach 300 wins this year when Gettysburg defeated Denison University 9-5  on March 8 at a wet Shirk Field at Mussleman Stadium.

Janczyk, who has posted a career record of 313-93, joins Jack Emmer, who won 326 games at Army, and current Salisbury coach Jim Berkman, who had 308 wins entering the season. Janczyk has recorded 255 of his victories at Gettysburg, where he recently started his 21st season. He also won 33 games in three years at Salisbury and earned 12 victories in two years at Colgate.

The Division of Enrollment & Educational Services - EES

The Division of Enrollment & Educational Services — EES, in acronym form — combines the Offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, Institutional Analysis, Athletics, Communications & Public Relations, and Web Communications & Electronic Media.

These six offices are joined in order to strengthen the College’s enrollment efforts. Our mission is to recruit each year a new class of diverse, talented, creative, and capable students, and the specific capabilities of each office contribute in unique ways to that work.

The Office of Institutional Analysis, for example, follows trends in higher education that can affect recruitment and retention of students. The Office of Admissions, of course, carries out the actual recruitment of each class, while the Office of Financial Aid supports those recruitment efforts by using financial aid in strategic ways to shape the quality of the class. Athletics supports recruitment in turn by working hard to bring students who are athletically talented and academically gifted.

Both the Offices of Communications & Public Relations and Web Communications & Electronic Media support the College’s recruitment directly and indirectly through media and marketing initiatives that are meant to enhance Gettysburg’s visibility and reputation.
