Applying for Financial Aid

ALL FORMS SHOULD BE COMPLETED NO LATER THAN APRIL 15.

Students interested in receiving aid from Gettysburg College for the 2008-2009 academic year must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  The application should be completed online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.  In order to complete the form online both students and parents must have a PIN number.   You may use the same PIN from last year. If you need to obtain a number or duplicate you can do so by going to http://www.pin.ed.gov/

All students applying for aid must go through the verification process, ensuring their eligibility, prior to receiving their award package.  In order to complete this process the financial aid office must receive the following documents:

NOTE: The Financial Aid PROFILE is no longer required.

Obtaining a Paper/PDF Version of the FAFSA

New this year, the paper version of the 2008-2009 FAFSA will not be available in the financial aid office.  Students should complete the form online.  However, if necessary, students can request up to three copies of the paper FAFSA by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID.  Forms will be sent to the student within 3-7 business days of request.

In addition, there is a new PDF version of the 2008-2009 FAFSA that can be submitted for processing. The form is available on various federal aid websites such as http://www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov/.  If using this version, students will need to print out their completed form, sign it, and mail it to the address listed on the form.

Changing Interest Rates

Recently, Congress passed legislation that will reduce the interest rates for Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans beginning July 2008.  This is a gradual reduction of rates that is only applicable to those students receiving the Subsidized Stafford Loan.  Rates of reduction are listed below:

For loans first disbursed:

  • July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009 = 6%
  • July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010 = 5.6%
  • July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011 = 4.5%
  • July 1, 2011 - June 30, 2012 = 3.4%
