First-Year Registration Information

There are four steps to First Year Registration. Please read the following carefully, and pay close attention to the dates involved with each step. Contact the Office of Academic Advising if you have any questions.

STEP 1: June 9 - 23

The Course Selection Worksheet currently available to you online is a place for you to set out the kinds of courses in which you are interested and talk about why. This is really a document to help you reflect on your interests and inform your advisor about them-it is NOT your actual course registration.

Another online form now available allows you to let us know if you want to take a First-year Seminar and which seminars you prefer. Remember, we recommend that you seriously consider taking a FY Seminar, but these courses are NOT required. You can rank up to 10 seminars, but it is better not to include in your preference list any seminars in which you do not really want to be registered. The Registrar will use this information to place you in a seminar before the next STEP.  

STEP 2: June 24-July14

After locking your myFirstYear forms, you will have access to the Student Center to build your "Wishlist" of courses-this list should represent courses you are seriously considering. You will be able to add 8 courses to this Wishlist.  During this time, you must complete the online language placement exams if you did not do so earlier. After the Registrar reviews all the information in the Wishlists, you will receive an "appointment" time for STEP 3.

STEP 3: July 22 - July 30

During this window of time, you will be given access to the Student Center to move up to 4 of your Wishlist courses to your pre-registration schedule. If you have selected a First-Year Seminar, that course will already be in your schedule. You can use the Language Placement results at this time to select the appropriate level of a language class if you are continuing a language you studied in high school or if you want to start a new language. Remember, the normal load is FOUR courses.

STEP 4 TO BE COMPLETED ON CAMPUS

Your pre-registration selections will be finalized after you meet your advisor during Orientation on campus. At that time you can make any necessary adjustments to your schedule.
