Connecting Digitally with Your Student
To complement his article appearing in the Fall 2008 issue of In the Loop, here are a few suggestions from Rod Tosten '85, Vice President of Information Technology, for connecting digitally with your students.
Create a Parent CNAV Account: CNAV is the College's secure portal. You can access a directory of the College's faculty, staff, and students; take care of important business, such as providing your students' health insurance information; and record your cell phone number in the event of a major emergency. Additionally, your students can give you access to their transcripts.
Email Your Student: Dash off an email to your student asking how things are going. Also, keep your student updated by providing some good news from home.
Learn How to TEXT: Most students love TEXTing and receiving TEXT messages. They will be pleasantly surprised when they receive a brief TEXT from you.
Use the CNAV directory: You should discuss personal boundaries and ground rules with your student, but your CNAV account gives you the ability to search on the names of members of the College community. All campus members can tailor the personal information that they share.
The digital environment is an increasingly important part of all of our lives. Now is the time to establish a positive digital relationship with your student and a new dynamic in your family's relationship.
