Update Student Health Insurance
Health Insurance and Student Billing
Health insurance is required for all students.
All students are charged for the College health insurance plan on the summer tuition bill preceding each academic year. (For the 2011-2012 academic year, the annual premium for this insurance will be $1264.)
Students will receive a credit on their billing statement for this charge if the student, parent(s), or guardian(s) provides documentation of coverage by a private health insurance plan.
How to provide documentation of coverage by private insurance plan
New students should provide documentation of private health insurance coverage via the Health Insurance section of myFirstYear Dashboard, which they complete in June before they enroll.
Returning students should provide documentation of private insurance every year via the online Student Center.
Parents or guardians may provide documentation of coverage via Parent CNAV.
Documentation of coverage by a private insurance plan must be provided by the August preceding each academic year in order for students to receive full credit for the College health insurance charge.
How to decide between the College health insurance and private health insurance
When choosing between College health insurance and private health insurance for your student, keep in mind that Gettysburg College Health Services and the diagnostic labs used by Health Services charge for their services. Please also know that a family's insurance policy may not cover care provided outside of a designated network or area.
For additional information that may be useful in deciding between College and private health insurance, read the following documents:
How to notify the College about a change in a student's private health insurance
If, during the course of the academic year, students lose coverage under their private health insurance plan, they should contact Mary Ann Remaley at (717) 337-6069 or by email at mremaley@gettysburg.edu.
