Former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw delivered the keynote address at a ceremony marking the 143rd anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. At left are Brokaw with Gettysburg College President Katherine Haley Will who also delivered remarks for Dedication Day.
Brokaw spoke to a large crowd at Soldiers National Cemetery in Gettysburg, where Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address on Nov. 19, 1863. Brokaw noted the sacred place and timeless words used by Lincoln.
"President Lincoln came to this great battlefield to honor the dead and the cause. He was thinking not about his place in history but about their place and the responsibility of all those who came after to ensure that they had not died in vain," Brokaw said.
