Speed was the name of the game for James "Stan" Gray on the diamond and gridiron. A two-time All-Middle Atlantic Conference Southern All-Star centerfielder on the baseball team, Gray used his quickness to shatter the school single-season stolen base record, swiping 24 bases in 1977. He hit .349 as the team captain as a senior and led Gettysburg to the MAC Championship game. For his career, he tallied a record 53 stolen bases, a mark that stood for a decade. Gray utilized his quickness down the football field as well, leading the Bullet football team in receiving as a sophomore and finishing his career with 562 yards on 53 receptions.
