Collections

Asian Art Collection - The collection consists of porcelains and other ceramics; works in jade, ivory, wood, and metal; textiles; works on paper; and books. We are currently in the middle of a four-year project to catalog over 2,000 items into the Art & Artifact on-line catalog to be available on our web site.

College Archives - The Archives consist of the official correspondence, records, minutes, and other documents related to employees, administrators, students, presidents, trustees, and faculty of the College. In addition, the archives contain materials related to the College and its history, but which are not considered part of the official records. This material includes publications such as college histories, masters theses, honors theses, student publications, photographs, artifacts, faculty papers, subject vertical files, ephemera, and manuscript material.

Digital Collections - Digitized images of Special Collections' Asian Art, Civil War Era Political Cartoons, Gettysburgian, and Sunderman Music holdings.

Manuscripts - Full descriptive inventories for processed larger, multi-box manuscript collections and alphabetical listings of smaller, single folder vertical file manuscript collections (VFMs), with a separate category for VFMs pertaining to the Civil War (CW/VFMs).

Stuckenberg Map Collection - The collection, a gift of John Henry Wilbrandt Stuckenberg (1835-1903) and Mary Gingrich Stuckenberg (1834-1934), consists of over 500 separate maps and atlases from the 16th through the 19th century. See the archivist for more information.

Oral History Collection - Oral history interviews have been conducted with individuals who - for the most part - have some direct connection with Gettysburg College. Many of the people interviewed are graduates, members of the faculty or staff (both active and retired), or residents of the community.

Rare Books - The collection contains those books which, because of physical condition or rarity, need additional security and conservation. The Rare Books Collection consists of the first library of the college; books from the literary societies; private libraries of past faculty of the college; a number of first edition and important literary works; books printed prior to 1800; new books too costly to place on the open shelves; books on Asian art; and books that are the only known copies in this country. Our books are searchable through MUSCAT.
