MS - 080: The Francis A. Shearer Collection

Provenance:  Gift of Cynthia Shearer (Mrs. Edwin T. Johnson), daughter of Francis A. Shearer

    Francis Allen Shearer was born on February 8, 1904, in Goldsboro, PA.  He was the younger brother of Roger L. Shearer who graduated from Gettysburg College in 1917, and John Dwight Shearer, a 1920 Gettysburg College graduate.  Francis Shearer graduated from Gettysburg College in 1924 and from Philadelphia Seminary in 1927.    He became a Lutheran clergyman at Clarks Summit in 1927, and married Emma Mary Sipe of York, PA, on June 15 of that year.  The couple had one child, Cynthia Laux, born on September 7, 1930. 

Scope and Content Notes:
    The collection consists of memorabilia of Francis A. Shearer from his college days at Gettysburg College.
