Oral History Collection

Oral histories illuminate events of the past through documented conversations with people who lived through those events.  The oral histories in Gettysburg's collection come primarily from people from the surrounding community, including many with direct connections to the College, and highlight events of regional significance.  One collection, for example, focuses on the history of the College, while another consists of perspectives of people who lived in Adams County during World War II, when a prisoner of war camp for German prisoners was created on the Gettysburg battlefield.

We are indebted to history professors Jack Locher and Michael Birkner and to their students, who are chiefly responsible for recording the interviews in the collection.
