Subject Areas - Vietnam War Sources in Special Collections

Researchers should also note that many of these
materials deal with Stephen H. Warner, Class of 1968.

Books, pamphlets, and other published materials:
Check MUSCAT for Special Collections' holdings. Our stacks are closed so you must make your requests at our reference desk in our Reading Room. In most cases, our copies are rare and/or first editions, cannot be photocopied and do not circulate, so check to see if there is a second copy in the main stacks that can circulate.

For non-published materials, including photographs, maps, ephemera, and manuscripts, consult the archivists. MS-044: The Stephen H. Warner Southeast Asia Photograph Collection is the largest collection of these materials on the Vietnam War. See below for a description and link to this collection.

Oral History Collection:
Vietnam/1960s
contains approximately thirty interviews pertaining to the Vietnam War era. Researchers will find paper copies in the Reading Room.

College Archives: Publications such as the alumni magazine Gettysburg, the Faculty Minutes, the Student Senate Minutes, and the Gettysburgian (student newspaper) may offer useful material about the Vietnam War era at Gettysburg College.

In addition, the Papers of Michael J. Birkner (unprocessed), the Papers of Donna Schaper, MS-057, and the Papers of C.A. Hanson, RG-005, may provide useful context from both the student's and the administrator's perspective.

Subject Vertical Files, including "Vietnam, 10 Years After," "Area Studies Symposium," "Warner, Steve, 1946-1977," "Vietnam Wall," and "EATSIT," a protest-oriented student publication, may offer additional sources.

For non-published materials such as photographs, ephemera, and manuscripts, you will need to contact the staff of Special Collections. The following list of primary sources below is not exhaustive as we add materials and process collections year round. With a few exceptions, reproductions and photocopies in our collections are not listed.
