Student Garden/
The purpose of this project is to:
1) Allow students to examine interdisciplinary topics in environmental studies including ecology, sustainable agriculture, food systems, and nutrition.
2) Donate healthy naturally grown produce to underprivileged local residents via the local food bank and to students via campus dining services.
3) Offer community outreach programs through gardening workshops for residents and children.
4) Contribute to current campus greening efforts in part by starting a compost program through the cafeteria.
The interns will be afforded the opportunity to explore all aspects of garden management, the processes of initiating a student-run socio-environmental service-oriented program (in the form of an organic garden), the role of sustainable agriculture in Adams County, and strategies for developing environmental education and outreach activities for local residents.
