Action Against HIV/AIDS
The main purpose of this student organization is to inform the campus and surrounding community about HIV/AIDS, and its current and/or past impact on society. The group will take part in fundraising to principally help the Whitman-Walker Clinic in Washington, DC (the foremost HIV/AIDS clinic there). The group, however, will not limit itself in scope to the Washington, DC area's HIV/AIDS pandemic, but will also pay attention to other major cities like Philadelphia and New York and other countries. Many believe that HIV/AIDS crisis is not present in the US, creating a false security blanket. The organization hopes to change that image. The group will try to raise awareness on campus by sponsoring activities like an HIV/AIDS Awareness Week. Some other possible ideas include, but are not limited to, bringing in speakers who may put a face on the condition and the efforts to eradicate it, watching videos about its history, or offering open dialogues. Furthermore, the organization will try to educate the campus about the disease and its prevention.
