It is extremely cold this morning, and we have just ventured into our third day.
 
Yesterday we experienced a heck of snow and wintry conditions. We only made it a mile and half in five hours. We had an aggressive first-day ascent with route finding and waist-deep snow. The students are in good spirits, but they had a difficult day to say the least.
 
Everyone is up making breakfast, melting snow for water, and preparing for an 8:30 a.m. departure toward Browns Creek. Due to our current location, we are passing Raspberry Gulch. Everyone is up and eager to move.
 
"My goal was the summit of Mt. Shavano, however I understand the importance of creating more immediate goals in order to achieve a greater vision," said Brian Kelley '10.
 
Battery power is dropping fast.
 
I need to sleep with the computer each night to keep it warm. I was in the tent — it was 8 degrees outside — hiding in my bag to prolong the life of the battery. Fun. Tough to type when your fingers are freezing.
