Community Service

A liberal arts education promotes informed, engaged citizenship. At Gettysburg, one of the most popular outlets for meaningful engagement with the world around you is community service.

Each year more than 1,400 students get involved in community service, offering more than 20,000 hours of their time working with the homeless, mentoring at-risk youth, and assisting in countless other ways.

The College's Center for Public Service coordinates these projects. Many take place in the town of Gettysburg, while others are in Washington, DC, New Orleans, Alabama, Mexico, Nicaragua, Argentina, and other parts of the world. And to bridge service and study, many academic departments offer service-learning courses that integrate classroom theory and hands-on experience with a pressing social issue.
