Leadership Opportunities
There are no bystanders at Gettysburg. Everyone has both the opportunity to act as a leader, and the corresponding responsibility to serve as a leader. Gettysburg offers more than 1,000 leadership opportunities every year. Starting a new student organization, serving as captain of a team, coordinating volunteers, and leading an outdoor expedition are just a few of the examples that give students the chance to develop their leadership skills.
Garthwait Leadership Center
The Garthwait Leadership Center, through collaborative partnerships, helps students and alumni to develop leadership skills through a set of intellectual and experiential opportunities. Students and alumni use these opportunities to identify and reflect on their passions, and learn how to apply leadership skills ethically to make a positive impact.

Sarah Woodbury '10, contributed much on the softball fields as a player during her time at Gettysburg College, but it was her leadership among her teammates that truly impressed her coach.
"The role of captain is to be a liaison between the coaches and the players, making sure that everyone is on the same page. Sarah did that well," Head Softball Coach Samantha Abrams said. Read more
