Bachelor of Arts in Music
The Bachelor of Arts degree combines a core curriculum of traditional music classes with a unique elective program. Students have the opportunity to develop a concentrated course of study to correspond with their professional interests. In close collaboration with a faculty advisor, students create a strand of carefully selected electives that prepares them for career options or graduate school. Possible concentrations may include music performance, music history, music theory, piano pedagogy, music management, conducting, composition, and jazz studies. A student developing a strand will consolidate electives and performance opportunities in the chosen area. Additionally, the senior capstone project reflects, through performance or lecture-demonstration, the strand that the student has pursued.
The combination of the core curriculum of music theory and history, conducting, applied lessons, and ensemble participation with this special elective program provides a degree that is uniquely suited to meet the professional needs of the individual student.
Many Sunderman Conservatory students choose to integrate the B.A. in Music with another major in one of Gettysburg College's many areas of study.
