Ensembles

Gettysburg College offers a variety of music ensembles - choral, band, orchestra and jazz. Musically speaking, there's something for everyone, from voices raised in song to the thunderous half-time performance of the marching band to the eclectic styles and sounds of jazz.

For those who wish to use their voice as an instrument, the choral program provides opportunities for singers with varying degrees of expertise and experience and includes three main ensembles, the College Choir, Concert Choir and Women's Choir. The band program consists of the Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble and Bullet Marching Band. The Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble perform each semester at Gettysburg's Majestic Theatre, as well as at other venues in the area. The 100-member Bullet Marching Band performs at all home football games, as well as other at events. The marching band is called the Pride of the Centennial Conference and with good reason. The Symphony Orchestra performs a wide variety of masterpieces of orchestral music, from the Baroque period through the present, and provides a platform for student soloists through its annual Concerto Competition. For those more drawn to the cool sounds of jazz, there is the Jazz Ensemble. This group is an auditioned ensemble of 18 to 20 students, playing all styles of jazz - swing, Latin, fusion, bop and standards from the Big Band Era. The Jazz Ensemble has performed at jazz festivals around the world.

Deen

"Andy spends hours each day practicing and carving his own oboe reeds, he plays in seven different ensembles, ranging from a trio with guitar and mezzo-soprano to the pit orchestra for a musical at the Majestic."
