Gettysburg College voice professor to perform Sept. 23
Prof. Kathleen Sasnett, area coordinator of voice studies for the Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College, will present a classical recital Sept. 23.
Sasnett, an operatic soprano, will perform works of Bach, Bernstein, Caccini, Goodrich, Malotte, Moore, Niedermeyer and Richard Strauss. The program will begin at 8 p.m. in Gettysburg College's Christ Chapel on North Washington Street. This event is free and open to the public.
Sasnett has sung numerous major operatic roles including Blanche in "Dialogues of the Carmelites" in Florence and Cortona, Italy, and Lady Billows in Benjamin Britten's "Albert Herring" in Prague, Budapest, Bratislava, and Vienna. Sasnett has sung numerous leading musical theater roles, including Maria in "Sound of Music," Lili in "Carnival," Marian in "Music Man," Fiona in "Brigadoon," and Aldonza in "Man of La Mancha." She holds a doctorate in vocal performance from Ohio State University.
The Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College combines Gettysburg's superb music tradition and its strengths as one of the nation's leading liberal arts colleges. Established in 2005 through a $15.7 million gift from 1919 graduate Dr. F. William Sunderman Sr., the conservatory offers three degrees -- bachelor of music in performance, Bachelor of Arts in music, and bachelor of science in music education -- as well as a minor in music.
Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with approximately 2,600 students. It is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. The college was founded in 1832.
