Classical music to be performed Nov. 1
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Classical music will be performed on clarinet and piano Nov. 1 at Gettysburg College.
The 8 p.m. performance will take place in Schmucker Hall's Paul Recital Hall located along North Washington Avenue. Suzanne Tirk, clarinet, and Karen Schlabaugh, piano, will perform works by Ferguson, Osborne, Poulenc and Reinecke. This event is free and open to the public.
Tirk is a professor of clarinet at Wichita State University's School of Music. She is a member of the artist-faculty ensemble in residence, Lieurance Woodwind Quintet, and principal clarinetist with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. Tirk earned a bachelor of music degree in clarinet performance from Lawrence University's Conservatory of Music and received a master of music degree from Michigan State University.
Schlabaugh is a professor of music at Bethel College. She teaches piano, music theory and history courses, and is involved in a cooperative piano pedagogy program. She has been chair of the music department since 1998. She earned degrees from Oberlin College, Ithaca College and University of Iowa, and spent a semester studying at the Royal College of Music in London.
The Sunderman Conservatory of Music at Gettysburg College combines Gettysburg's superb music tradition and its strengths as one of the nation's leading liberal arts colleges. Established in 2005 through a $15.7 million gift from 1919 graduate Dr. F. William Sunderman Sr., the conservatory offers three degrees -- bachelor of music in performance, bachelor of arts in music, and bachelor of science in music education -- as well as a minor in music.
Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with approximately 2,600 students. It is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. The college was founded in 1832.
