Free lunchtime concert Oct. 24
GETTYSBURG, Pa. - A lunchtime concert will take place Oct. 24 at Gettysburg College.
The noon performance will take place in Musselman Library as part of their Notes at Noon program. The Folkemer Family Band will perform songs collected in Pennsylvania between 1928 and 1963 by internationally known folklorist Samuel Preston Bayard. The group will use concertina, penny whistle, low whistle, guitar, bodhran, dulcimer, keyboard and acoustic bass. The event is free and open to the public.
The Folkemer Family Band became "official" in September 2006 when they performed and taught at the Greenwood Furnace Folk Gathering. Each year, they return to perform and teach workshops on subjects including the Samuel Bayard Pennsylvania Folk Song Collection, Scottish and Irish songs, vocal technique, song arranging and bodhran. The band specializes in folk songs collected in Pennsylvania. The Folkemer Family Band is comprised of Stephen, Beth, Joel, Margaret and Nathan.
Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with approximately 2,600 students. It is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. The college was founded in 1832.
