Campus-Wide Bow Prize Competition, Sunday, March 29

 

The Sunderman Conservatory of Music Strings program is proud to present the inaugural Janet C. Stavropoulos, Class of 1967 Bow Prize Competition on Sunday, March 29th, 2:30pm at the Paul Recital Hall, Schmucker Hall.  This competition is open to all string players at Gettysburg College.  Competitors are asked to perform a repertoire of solo works, 15 minutes in length, with piano accompaniment when appropriate.

inner will be a bow custom made for the winner by master bowmaker Yung Chin.  The winner will also be given the opportunity to work with Yung Chin, and will give a concert performance and presentation after the bow is created.

Yung Chin is one of America's most respected and sought after makers and dealers of fine bows.  Based in New York City, Yung Chin is a frequent contributor to STRINGS magazine.  Yung Chin has given numerous lectures about bows and has taught bowmaking and restoration at Oberlin College as part of their Violin Restoration program.  Yung Chin is a member of the American Federation of Violin Dealers as well as the Violin Society of America.
