Gettysburg College Symphony Orchestra to perform classical American music April 26

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Gettysburg College Symphony Orchestra will perform classical American music April 26 at the Majestic Theater.

The 8 p.m. performance will take place in the Majestic Theater located at 25 Carlisle Street. The program, "Music from the New World," will feature works inspired by the landscape, history and culture of America; Leonard Bernstein's overture to "Candide," Samuel Barber's "Knoxville: Summer of 1915" and Antonin Dvorak's "Symphony No. 9: From the New World." The piece from Barber will also feature Sunderman Conservatory of Music Professor Kathleen Sassnett as the soprano soloist. The orchestra is directed by Sunderman Conservatory of Music Professor Alexander Kahn. The event is free and open to the public.

Gettysburg College is a highly selective four-year residential college of liberal arts and sciences with approximately 2,600 students. It is located on a 200-acre campus adjacent to Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania. The college was founded in 1832.
