Jazz Ensemble Concert with Boston Brass, October 23, 8:00pm
The Sunderman Conservatory of Music presents Autumn Leaves on Friday, October 23 at 8:00 pm at the Majestic Theater. This much anticipated annual event is part of the Fall Family Weekend festivities at Gettysburg College.
The Gettysburg College Jazz Ensemble will perform the first half of the program under the direction of Professor of Music Buzz Jones. Senior saxophonists Kurt Hagemann and Rebecca Shaffer are featured soloists on musical tributes to Charlie Parker and Antonio Carlos Jobim, and sophomore music major Natasha Maskaly makes her debut with the jazz ensemble singing Duke Ellington's Satin Doll.
The jazz ensemble has toured Europe four times since 1993 with performances at the Montreux, North Sea, and Vienne International Jazz Festivals and concerts in Venice, Paris, Heidelberg, Brugge, and Athens.
The second half of the concert will feature the world-renowned Boston Brass, who will be at the Sunderman Conservatory as part of a three day residency. For nearly 25 years, this virtuosic quintet has established a one-of-a-kind live concert experience with exciting classical arrangements, burning jazz standards, and the best of the original brass quintet repertoire.
The program will close with the college Jazz Ensemble accompanying Boston Brass on a medley of Blood, Sweat, and Tears compositions. The residency and concert are presented as of the Sunderman Chamber Music Foundation Concert Series.
Tickets: Adults $5. No charge for Gettysburg College students or employees with college ID, no charge for children 12 and under. For tickets and information, contact the Majestic Theatre at 717-337-8200, or www.gettysburgmajestic.org.
