Sunderman Trio Performs Beethoven
On Sunday, November 1, 2:30pm, in Paul Recital Hall, the Sunderman Trio will perform two masterpieces of music literature: Beethoven's Trio in E flat major, Op.1 no. 1, and Mendelssohn's Trio no. 2 in c minor Op. 66.
Where earlier composers often wrote primary melodic and secondary accompaniment parts, Beethoven crystallized the trio genre into three fully equal parts for piano, violin, and cello. Mendelssohn, writing fifty years later, marshaled those forces for a huge, almost orchestral effect.
The Sunderman Trio features violinist Yeon-Su Kim, cellist Daniel Levitov, and pianist Jocelyn Swigger.
Admission is free.
