A Studio Art
and Health Science
double major may seem incongruous-but not for Nelson Dyer. Even though he loved both dentistry and art, finding a college with a comprehensive art studio workshop turned out to be Gettysburg's biggest selling point during Nelson's college search. Here, fusing a passion for mechanical engineering with art, Nelson interprets his senior capstone project for the Studio Art major. Using scrap metal, hollowed out trees, geodes and other mixed media, Nelson describes his collection of kinetic and naturalistic sculptures as tributes to the natural world. Now a fresh graduate of Gettysburg with Studio Art and Health Sciences to balance, does the future hold a career for him in artistry or in dentistry? The question's not answered yet, but Nelson is sure of one thing-he likes working with his hands.
