Adams County During World War II

Adams Countians experienced the war years with the same hopes and fears as their fellow Americans in a more urban or suburban setting. Selective service was a central aspect of life for the county's male population. Civil defense, commodity rationing, and war bond drives were integral parts of life on the home front.

Daily life for most farmers continued as it had before the war, with fruit and dairy farming among the dominant occupations in the county, and plenty of demand for their products. In general, the war years were anxious but happy years in Adams County.
